Meet Krystal | Certified Postpartum Doula, Babywearing Educator

After becoming a mom herself to two beautiful children (her youngest child is pictured above with her), Krystal came to understand the value of postpartum care. Knowing this was something that is so very much needed in our culture, and seeing the results of the lack of support, she was interested in learning how to care for other moms and their babies. After one of her close friends became a certified Postpartum Doula, she found her path to realizing her dream and decided to pursue that with all of her passion and energy.

Krystal comes to doula work after spending several years working in beautiful sunny California as teacher in the San Jose area. During that time, she learned how to respond effectively to all types of learners and was able to successfully provide education to struggling students. Teaching came naturally for Krystal, and she is able to now support clients with the same desire to learn, as new parents are often sponges for helpful information.

While becoming a certified postpartum doula, Krystal has learned an array of vital skills to support moms and their families. Her interest in infant sleep, fueled by multiple discussions and shared experiences with friends in moms group, inspired her to research many avenues of sleep support. All this information guides her work with families as they strive towards safe sleep and try to balance them with the needs of newborn babies.

The desire to take care of the parents (not just the baby) has inspired Krystal to take the time to really help parents process their experiences, make decisions about their baby’s care, and feel confident in their new role. She is so happy to be offering this care to parents all over the Portland area, and considers it her calling.

Working with families locally, she has had the opportunity to support families on different approaches to care for their infants, assisting with several breastfeeding challenges, and support baby wearing to help parents gain confidence. She considers it a victory when her clients can catch up on their sleep and have a nutritious meal while she cares for the whole family.

Krystal is crafter and loves sewing and creating things when she gets free time. She also enjoys getting outside to enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest with her 2 and 3 and 1/2 year olds, and also enjoys the peace that well-exercised children bring to bedtime snuggles. She is a big Disney fan, and loves family movie nights with the kids. Krystal treasures her special time with her husband, a digital marketing techie, and (when they are able travel) they love to take their crew to Disneyland, or to San Diego or the Bay area to visit the grandparents. Her special place is her grandma’s cottage in Lake Ontario, where she is now building new memories with her little ones.

If you are lucky enough to have Krystal for you doula, make sure to request her iron-building spinach pasta, her protein filled quiche, or savory chicken enchiladas. Krystal loves making food for grown ups, especially those who are working on making milk and recovering from the exhaustion of birth and those first few days in the hospital.

We are so happy to have Krystal on our team. Her enthusiasm and passion shine bright as she cares for her clients. She’s an absolute joy to have in your home, and you will love her energy. Her availability is most flexible during the daytime, however she can also offer overnight care for sleep support.
