I Love Our Doula Team!
A doula group is only as good as the doulas that make it up. We are so proud to have these amazing women contributing their care to form our team of love and nurturing. From Vancouver to SW Portland, from Beaverton to Oregon City, these doulas cover some ground to care for parents and babies with a depth of experience and wisdom. While each doula brings their own skills and talents, their baseline offers more than just training and certification. They approach care in a way that meets each family uniquely through years of experience learning what families love and how they function best.
Where we Started:
Birthed in 2001, ABC Doula began in my heart to offer the kind of doula that knew what new moms need, and offered it without prompting. Knowing the universal needs of postpartum and newborns (and twins!) but customizing the care to each family and their individual needs. All from a love of babies–and knowledge of how to care for them to help parents sleep, stay in love, and function well. We knew postpartum care helped to reduce postpartum mood disorders and allow for parents to grow confidently into who they wanted to be as a family. 3000 families later we now have referrals coming from families with kids in college, who still remember what it was like to have nurturing support after birth that comforted them while they were learning about their babies—and helped them sleep!
CURRENTLY:
A tight knit group of doulas serving families who are looking for breast and bottle feeding support, rest and sleep respite, and practical care for recovery after birth or welcoming twins home. We also have a couple doulas who offer birth support, and we offer classes for both parents and grandparents to help them prepare for a peaceful postpartum. All our doulas are wise women, experts in infant care (many are also Newborn Care Specialists/NCS), as well as trained in recognizing and supporting perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. They have a long list of qualifications beyond the basics of postpartum care. As truly non-judgemental caregivers they are able to hold space while being sensitive to each family’s needs and requests. All are professionals who carry liability insurance, CPR and First Aid certification, have been thoroughly background checked—and they LOVE their jobs!
OUR MISSION
We are recreating a postpartum culture where there has been little support. We are caregivers, with an eye to the holistic but with our feet firmly rooted in the practical parts of the hard work of adjusting to new babies. We exist to make life better for families by taking both the mental and physical load off and allowing rest and healing to create harmony in the postpartum period.
OUR VALUES
Newborn babies are precious, filling everyone’s hearts with oxytocin and joy! As expert baby whisperers able to care for them when parents need a break, our main goals are to help parents become confident, rested, and healed, and to bond with their babies. We know the world is an anxious place right now, and our heart is to cushion this time frame and reclaim what we used to value in recovery and establishing lactation.
